Everything You Need to Know About Visual Intelligence on iPhone 16
Recurso transforma a câmera do iPhone 16 em um motor de busca visual, permitindo identificar objetos, traduzir textos e muito mais.
At the iPhone 16 launch event in early September, Apple announced a new artificial intelligence feature that promises to transform how users interact with their cameras: Visual Intelligence.
Exclusive to the iPhone 16 lineup, Visual Intelligence uses a combination of local processing power and advanced artificial intelligence to turn the camera into a true visual search engine.
What Is Visual Intelligence?
Visual Intelligence is a computer vision feature that uses AI models to analyze images and provide contextual information and related actions in real-time.
Imagine pointing your iPhone’s camera at a restaurant and instantly seeing its hours of operation, reviews, and even adding a reservation to your calendar with just one tap.
This technology is similar to Google Lens on Android devices, but Apple promises a higher level of integration and user experience.
With the new Camera Control physical button on the iPhone 16 lineup, users can quickly access Visual Intelligence by simply pressing and holding the button.
This simplifies feature activation, making interaction smoother and more intuitive.
How Does Visual Intelligence Work?
The functionality of Visual Intelligence is based on a combination of local and cloud processing.
Processing power comes from the A18 chip in the new iPhones, which performs much of the image analysis directly on the device, ensuring speed and user privacy.
For more complex tasks like detailed object recognition or interactions with other AI tools, Apple uses its private cloud architecture called Private Cloud Compute.
This system was designed for advanced analysis while protecting data privacy, ensuring that cloud-bound information is minimal and encrypted when necessary.
Additionally, Visual Intelligence offers optional integration with third-party services like Google and ChatGPT to expand its capabilities.
For example, if a user wants to search for a product online, the camera can redirect the search to Google. For more complex questions, ChatGPT can be activated.
However, these integrations will only be enabled with the user’s explicit permission.
When Will Visual Intelligence Be Available?
Visual Intelligence was released with the iOS 18.2 update.
The feature is exclusive to the iPhone 16 lineup, including iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Users outside the United States will initially access the feature only in English, with support for other languages gradually added through future updates.
Additionally, Apple announced that Visual Intelligence will not be available in certain regions like the European Union and China at launch due to regulatory and privacy concerns.
