Whenever Apple releases a new iPhone, one of the most frequent questions from tech enthusiasts revolves around the battery capacity.
This is crucial for understanding improvements compared to previous models and also for comparing with devices from other brands. However, Apple does not typically disclose detailed technical specifications of its devices.
Therefore, obtaining this information often requires relying on other sources, such as iFixIt’s teardown reports or regulatory documents.
However, through documents issued by the Brazilian regulatory agency, we were able to uncover all the battery capacities of the new iPhone 16 models.
Certification process in Brazil
The information was sourced from Anatel (Brazil’s National Telecommunications Agency), which certifies electronic devices before they can be sold in the country.
As we know, this year’s certification process occurred at record speed, with documents being released even before the global launch of the iPhone 16. This is important considering that Brazil is not part of the group of countries that will launch the new iPhones on September 20.
Battery capacities of iPhone 16 models
We thoroughly examined these certification documents and uncovered the official battery capacities for each model:
Model | Device | Capacity (mAh) | Nominal voltage (V) |
---|---|---|---|
A3293 | iPhone 16 Pro | 3,582 mAh | 3.892 V |
A3296 | iPhone 16 Pro Max | 4,685 mAh | 3.878 V |
A3287 | iPhone 16 | 3,561 mAh | 3.886 V |
A3290 | iPhone 16 Plus | 4,674 mAh | 3.875 V |
Analysis of the results
With these figures, several insights emerge:
- The battery capacities of the standard and Pro models are quite similar, yet Apple claims that the Pro models have better battery life. What could be the reason for this?
- The increase in battery capacity is consistent with Apple’s claims about improved battery life for specific activities, such as video playback or audio streaming. The percentage increase in battery capacity closely matches the improvements Apple stated for battery performance compared to the previous generation.
Model | iPhone 15 battery capacity (mAh) | iPhone 16 battery capacity (mAh) | Percentage difference (%) |
---|---|---|---|
Standard Model | 3,349 | 3,561 | 6.34% |
Plus Model | 4,383 | 4,674 | 6.64% |
Pro Model | 3,274 | 3,582 | 9.40% |
Pro Max Model | 4,422 | 4,685 | 5.95% |
As we can see, the iPhone 16 Pro model experienced the largest percentage increase in battery capacity compared to the previous generation.
